A.  LOSE THE CEREAL BOX, try oatmeal, French toast & muffins.  I suggest avoiding the individual packets, they are have stripped of fiber and certain nutrients replaced by factory vitamins.

B.  GROW baby spinach and leafy lettuce & herb in planter box.  I have photos, yard not required.  www.savvykitchensolutions.com

C.  ABANDON the soda.  Besides the health destructive element of sodas, it is creting more throwaway containers.  Try instead to big batches of ice tea easily flavored with a spoon of fruit juice concentrate.

D.  MAKE OWN BREAD Products.  So many things your can make with pancake or biscuit mix.  Muffins, waffles and gingerbread can be easily fortified with wheat germ, flax seed and small amounts of soy flour..

E.  BIG BAGS of frozen veggies are useful in many things, soup, casseroles, frittata & omelets.  Even make up your own bags.  When you get a good buy but wish to aviod old age in your vegetable crisper

F.  EXTEND YOUR MEAT and POULTRY, ground patties with crumbs and minced veggies,  they are best broiled in toaster oven.  No fry pans to wash.  Besides meat loaf, try turkey chili and meatball pasta.

G.  FALAFEL, HUMMUS and BROWN RICE are excellent meat substitutes.  They are high in protein and low in fat.  My best advice is experiment.  I used raw potato with falafel, then into potato patties.  Most need additions.

H.  SNACK COLLEGE, send your offspring to snack college by offering hi-fiber, natural sweetness, real vitamins.  Wash in advance to offering.  Popcorn is cheap and helthy DON'T BUY MICRO BAGS, they are expensive and filling with nasty chemicals.  Air popper are the best way to burst these kernels.  Candy is about the worst possible product.

I.  SERVE SENSIBLE PORTIONS:  Don't waste, its foolish and only makes a situation worse.  Store food properly especially refrigerated product.  Those wishing more ideas or some to offer e at hmsurewest.net.

The Coalition Against Cruelty to Carrots

The world is waiting for science and technology to brink us that magic pill to slow down obesity and fight cancer.  Well it has arrived!  I suggest they go to their nearest grocery store or Farmers' Market where a myriad of colors and shapes beg to be taken home and enjoyed.  These unpaid doctors have offices open 24/7.  Their medication is delicious, easy to ingest and the bill for feeling so good is pathetically small.

BLOG FOR OCT 23, 2007

WELCOME TO FALL 2007…I hope you’re enjoying fall, the crunch of those leaves under feet and crisp autumn air. Time to get your list of things to do in preparation of the holidays and have lots of tips in that direction.

WINDBOX GARDENING…You have no doubt heard about the e-coli found on lettuce and spinach. If you have a patio, a porch or a spot with partial sun, then you can have crisp clean lettuce and baby spinach with very little work. There are several pages dealing with this amazing great way to get yourself lots of green in 7 weeks. You may locate all this information in the book or my previous website called “savvykitchensolutions.com”. A picture of spinach will immediately along with needed instructions.

BOGY MAN…is coming actually perhaps already here. Those over dramatized warnings that show up in the media. First one is staphylococcus, next come the colds and the flu. However, getting children to wash their hands not share food and drinks. Just as the bear who prepares for winter by putting on the pounds I am recommending we load up on anti-oxidants and start checking out our winter duds. Don’t wait until it’s super cold before you turn on a furnace. Many older homes have wall furnaces and they are loaded with dust. They need a thorough cleaning before they are used that dust will set off your smoke alarm. Keep a freezer full of 8oz cartons of home made chicken broth. If you help e-mail me. If you or the kids are stuffed up, best helper is steam. And someone has already made something for this purpose which are available at most popular drugstores. I learned that there are two more available. 1st is called “Breathe Right Air Vitalizer” by Home Medic and the second “Vicks Warmer Steamer” and both are under $60.

CALIFORNIA STATE FAIR CONCESSIONS…are up to elbows in hot oil! But no doubt from all indications that the worse is yet to come in 2008.

TEXACO TWINKIES

They struck oil in California with little wear or tear

Not for cars but cooking at The California State Fair

Tanker of Mazola oil, was retained, which was no surprise

Enabling anything resembling food to be savagely fried!

UPPER ARMS MUSCLE BUILDER…I am exactly a gym work-out and now I have my great new exercise for those who understand that the meaning of repetition. This is a popular one; scrubbing pots, dirtier, the better, second is working in a garden, especially removing of sod. A more recent exercise has been painting the upper walls, of course if painting is not due. Try wiping down walls. My deluxe window recommendation is 2/3 rubbing alcohol and 1/3 water. 0 streaking.

Book promotes cooking at home

By Lindsay Croft

Motivating people to get back into their kitchens and step away from fast-food and microwave dinners, 73-year-old Helen Sue Dell, a former resident of Nevada County, has written a how-to guide for rediscovering the value of a home-cooked meal.

“Basically, people stopped cooking at home and the statistics of people eating out was frightening,” Dell said in describing the reasoning behind writing “Savvy Kitchen Solutions.”

“People ask me if it’s a cookbook, and I say ‘No.’ It’s a kind of I-want-to-embarrass-you-back-into-the-kitchen book.”

She now lives in Sacramento. “Savvy Kitchen Solutions” may be purchased at authorhouse.com
